“Imagine for a moment that you are visiting a plant nursery. You hear a commotion outside, so you investigate. You find a young assistant struggling with a rose bush. He is trying to force open the petals of a rose, and muttering in frustration. You ask him what he is doing, and he explains, “My boss wants all these roses to bloom this week, so last week I taped all the early ones, and now I’m opening the late ones.”
You protest that every rose has it’s own schedule of blooming; it is absurd to try to slow down or speed this up; it doesn’t matter when roses bloom; a rose will always bloom at its own best time. You look at the rose again, and see that it is wilting. But when you point this out, he replies, “Oh, too bad, it has genetic dysbloomia. I’ll have to call an expert.”

Yet children are no different than roses in their development: they are born with the capacity and desire to learn, they learn at different rates, and they learn in different ways. If we can meet their needs, provide a safe, nurturing environment, and keep from interfering with our doubts, anxieties, and arbitrary timetables, then- like roses- they will all bloom at their own best time.”

I thought this was lovely! Doesn't need much of my input, it speaks for itself! Enjoy!

I love this, but can't remember where I found this or who wrote it! If you know please leave a comment!
I have been on a little blog break because of Hurricane Irene. We are up and running now that there is power and internet. No cable was nice though, and i can see us living a cable free life...but i can't go too long without internet access and flushable toilets! We fared well, except for a leaky roof, but thankful that it wasn't worse. Others had flooding, and on other islands, even lost their homes :(
The boys handled the hurricane very well. Lathan didn't notice a thing and Lee really enjoyed watching it! He even taught me a little something about hurricanes (and tornadoes)!
Here are few videos i took during the course of the storm...Enjoy, and i'll be back soon!
We made play dough this morning :)
Red, yellow, white (natural), black (which turned out greenish) and purple (which came out black haha).
Lee is right now trying to make a play dough pancake....with his butt.

The joy of boys :)
The first is a book of ABC verses. Lee learns 1 a week (if he doesn't that's ok). I "laminate" each verse using contact paper, and will punch a hole in the upper corner where i will connect them after we get to Z. Then it will be a little book for him to revisit all the verses together.
Here is the website that i get each verse: from http://www.personalityinsights.com/ABC%20bible%20verses.pdf
Project #2 will take a bit longer, but i am very excited about it! Every week we read 1 bible story for the whole week.
I get my stories here :http://www.bibleforchildren.org/languages/english/stories.php
I print out the story we are reading, "laminate" the front and back cover, which i also print on card stock, and bind. This book is only bound at the corner, but next time i will bind them in a spiral fashion. So by the end of our studies we should have a collection of bible story books that we can reuse as often as we like!
Our homeschool group made a trip to the petting zoo this week, and the kids had FUN! I, personally, hoped they would have had more animals, and it would have been more hands on....but the kids enjoyed it, and it was great to meet up with the moms :)
